Planning a Website:
CONCEPT STAGE:
Keyword Planner
Set Up Google Analytics - Make sure your site is
listed and verified with them.
Get your Google Analytics Tracking Code to put in head section of website and/or in the
header.php file in Wordpress. Go through all of the choices. Be sure to turn on Site Search Tracking.
Get Google Adsense codes so you can put ads on your new site.

Remember: <meta name="robots" content="NOODP">
tells Google not to use DMOZ, the open source
CREATING THE WORDPRESS WEBSITE:
Download a fresh install of Wordpress
Choose a theme
Activate it
If it's a new theme, open the index.php file and write down
the layout div names and crucial class names for easy reference when you
make changes.
Change the settings
- Post Names
- Choose comments or no comments
Install Plugins:
- Akismet
- Contact Form 7
- SEO by Yoast
- Pinterest Pin It Button Lite
- Facebook - Auto add to facebook
Create the menu and add the crucial pages:
- Home
- Portfolio
- Services
- Prices
- Contact
Record the sizes of any logo divs, banners, and the size of any side bar if you will be
creating any "ads" to fill up that space.
Go to BlueHost and find the crucial pages and copy them to the following:
- oldstyle.css
- oldindex.php
- oldheader.php
- oldfooter.php
- oldsidebar.php
- any other pages you will be changing
Note: You can change the regular files while working on the theme and then when you
are done you can convert them into a child theme by moving the crucial files into
a "childof" theme and renaming the "old"files back to their original names.
Photoshop
- If you are doing a complete design, draw a wireframe.
- Google Places Photo: One Profile Picture - around 250 x 250
- Background Picture - needs to be at least 480 wide x 270 tall. More like 500px on shortest side
DREAMWEAVER
Create a the following blog structure in Dreamweaver:
SiteName/blog/wp-content/themes/childthemename
Set up the server to put the files in the right place
If you will be working inside of Dreamweaver, copy the crucial files
from the mother theme: index.php, style.css, header.php, footer.php, sidebar.php.
Pages Outside the Blog
Once you have the core pages and posts created inside the wordpress
blog, create an optin mailing list. Follow directions on
Excel sheet called "OptIn Mailing List Procedure"
Proofread the Site
Either proofread the site yourself or pay someone from fiver.com to do it.
REGISTRATION and SEO
Directory Listings
- List the new site with www.dmoz.com. This take awhile to absorb the listing, but every little bit helps.
Find a category for your website, then click on submit or recommend site, type in your url with the http stuff,
Put the title and the description, not too salesy, more information based.
Type in the captcha verification. It takes a week to find out if it's accepted.
- Second one is joeant.com Directory.
This one you have to register as an editor and you can submit a url or you can pay to be submitted. Drill down to the right category and it costs 39.99 to register. You can use this one only on sites that are producing income.
Traffic
- http://yourtraffichits.com/#l4, $35 for 10,000 visitors, $68 for 25,000 visitors - guaranteed 100%
- http://www.buytrafficguide.com/providers/visitorz, This site has a list of a lot of traffic generators and reviews.
- http://www.trafixtech.com, $25 for 10,000; $630 for 500,000; They have categories for hobbies, arts and entertainment.
SITE MAINTENANCE:
- If you post a new blog with an affilliate product or video, you can post immediately to
Bing here
- SITE OPERATOR: This is a great way to see what pages are indexed at google and what
the keywords are.
- site:operator - if you put this before your search, it will only search your site for info:
Example: site:whitegothic.com mermaids will search the internet for anything with whitegothic and the keyword mermaids
- Check all of your business sites after finishing a new site to make sure everything on the server is okay.
